Here you can find detailed proposals contained within the Arthur’s Hill & Fenham Neighbourhood Plan. All of the proposals that have been developed in detail are listed below. These are split into the six broad schemes that are planned for Arthur’s Hill and Fenham.
Descriptions of what is planned are accompanied by more detailed summaries, which are contained on individual leaflets for each plans, and technical drawings, which show the exact changes that are proposed for each of the streets. These leaflets and technical drawings can be downloaded by scrolling down this page and clicking on the relevant headings for each section.
All of these drawings are proposals, meaning that they are subject to change as a result of the feedback we receive from people across the city. Because of this, they do not necessarily represent the final versions of what will be built in these areas.
This part of the neighbourhood plan involves making improvements to several roads, including Lonnen Avenue, Cedar Road, Nuns Moor Road, Studley Terrace, New Mills and Barrack Road. The objective of these improvements is to create a new cycle route linking the west of Newcastle to the city centre.
This part of the neighbourhood plan involves making improvements to the green space north of Kingsway (behind Morrisons), Kingsway, Bolbec Road and Gowland Avenue. The objective of this is to make it safer and easier to cycle and walk between Cowgate, Fenham and the West Road.
This part of the neighbourhood plan involves making improvements to several paths and roads around Nuns Moor and Arthur’s Hill, including Fenham Hall Drive, Nuns Moor itself, Dilson Road and Gainsborough Grove. The objective of this is to make it safer and easier to cycle and walk around these areas.
This part of the neighbourhood plan involves making improvements to Stanhope Street, a busy road in Arthur’s Hill, to make it safer and easier to walk and cycle and get from Arthur’s Hill to the city centre.
This part of the neighbourhood plan involves improving road safety around schools in the area. This includes areas directly outside of, and close to, Westgate Hill Primary, Wingrove Primary, Moorside Community Primary, and Hadrian School.
Other plans listed in the sections above – e.g. improvements to Cedar Road – will also help to improve road safety around Sacred Heart Primary and Secondary, and Dame Allan’s.
This part of the neighbourhood plan involves making other, locally important improvements across the area, such as renovating the triangular green space at Hadrian Road and Hoyle Avenue, and removing traffic from some of the back lanes.
